Where Can I Get Information About STA And Its Programs?

STA frequently updates their website. Click here to access their website.

How Do I Register?

Click here to get updated registration information from STA. For LDCSB students, you are automatically registered. Here's how to finalize registration:

  1. Students submit their course selections in myBlueprint (Your child has been learning how to do this with STA Guidance Counsellors over the past few months. You can access your child's myBlueprint through the VLE platform in myldcsb.ca)
  1. Parents approve course selections through email confirmation
  1. The elementary school will send home a "Contact Information" page that will need updating. This will occur over the next couple of months.
  2.

Are You Sure There Are No Registration Forms to Submit to STA?

There are no registration forms to submit to STA. Your child will be registered at STA once they submit their courses in myBlueprint.

How Do I Approve My Child's Course Selections?

Once courses are submitted in myBlueprint, there is an option for parents to verify the course selections via email. Course selection and submission of courses will not be held up if a parent does not verify course selections by email.

What Courses Do We Have To Take In Grade 9?

Grade 9 students must select 8 courses and 2 alternate courses. Of the 8 courses, 6 are required courses: Religion, Math, Science, English, French, and Geography.

What Do These Course Codes Mean (1W, 1D, 1L, 1O)? Why Are There No Applied Courses? What Courses Do I Take To Keep College and University Pathways Open? What Is A Locally Developed Course?

Recently, the Ministry of Education made changes to the grade 9 curriculum for all Ontario students and schools.

  • The new Grade 9 English, Math, Science and Geography courses (ending in 1W) replace the previous academic and applied courses.
  • The new Grade 9 French course (ending in 1D) replaces the previous academic and applied courses.
  • Courses ending in 1W and 1D prepare students for apprenticeship, college, and university pathways.
  • Open level courses (ending in 1O) are for all students and all pathways.
  • Our Locally Developed courses should only be selected based on recommendation from the grade 8 teacher and prepare students for the workplace pathway only.  Locally Developed Courses are designed for students who are still working at an elementary level in a particular subject area (English, Math and Science only).

We Are Interested In Taking A Summer School Class. How Do We Sign Up?

Some families wish to take a Summer School class. Summer School is not a requirement. If you wish to sign up for a Summer School class, click the "Continuing Education" option in myBlueprint. STA strongly recommends that only Geography is considered for students entering grade 9. If you choose to take a Summer School class, you can remove that course from your course selection choices.

My Child Will Be Attending A Non-LDCSB High School. Do I Have To Do Course Selections?

All LDCSB grade 8 students need to submit a response in myBlueprint. If your child is planning to attend a non-LDCSB high school, please click the "Not Returning Next Year?" option and indicate "Other Secondary School (In-Province)" as your reason.

How Do I Know That STA Received My Child's Course Selections?

STA Guidance Counsellors must ensure that all LDCSB grade 8 students complete course selections in myBlueprint by February 2nd. Once you have submitted courses, myBlueprint will state "Your courses have been submitted". This indicates that you will be attending STA next year.
