Canadian and World Studies

The Canadian and world studies program will enable students to become responsible, active citizens within the diverse communities to which they belong.  As well as becoming critically thoughtful and informed citizens who value an inclusive society, students will have the skills they need to solve problems and communicate ideas and decisions about significant developments, events, and issues.

The Canadian and world studies program offers compulsory courses in geography, history, and civics (politics) in Grades 9 and 10.  Students must take one of the Grade 9 geography courses (Issues in Canadian Geography), and one of the Grade 10 history courses (Canadian History since World War I).  The Grade 10 course Civics and Citizenship is a half-credit compulsory course.

The Canadian and world studies program offers a number of optional courses in all five of the subject areas – economics, geography, history, law, and politics – in Grades 11 and 12.
