LDCSB Anti-Racism Journey: Our Pathway to Success
The LDCSB has identified the need for a social justice approach to education that values the contribution of all community members. Using the Catholic Graduate Expectations as a guideline and informed by our Catholic faith and Catholic social teaching, the board has adopted an Anti-Racism framework within which to inform its practice across the system.

Using the Catholic Graduate Expectations as a guideline and informed by our Catholic faith and Catholic social teaching, the board has adopted an Anti-Racism framework within which to inform its practice across the system.
An Anti-Racism framework identifies all forms of oppression as injustices and provides a position from which educators can make a critical analysis of how power and privilege are systematically and systemically embedded in institutions and society.
Within the framework, educators provide opportunities for students to see themselves represented in the Church, school, classroom and subjects. This empowers and motivates them to find their way.
The LDCSB will mobilize Culturally Responsive and Relevant Pedagogy (CRRP) to eliminate disparities in achievement and well-being for marginalized students in its schools. CRRP is an evidence-based pedagogical approach that can be tailored to meet the needs of Ontario students, particularly students who face ongoing systemic barriers. CRRP is focused on enhancing leadership and educator practice and emphasizes that an educator’s approach plays a decisive role in the success of all students. It requires that educators examine how their own experiences, perceptions and understandings shape expectations, decision-making and interactions with the students and families they serve.
- CRRP is not changing what you are doing but changing how you are doing it.
- CRRP creates lesson plans to allow for the inclusion of all learning and teaching styles.
- CRRP opens the door to identity development, consideration of multiple perspectives, affirmation of diversity and public validation of home-community cultures.
