Finding Calm Through a Calming Kit – Building a Calming Kit for Home and School

Most of us have experienced a time when we couldn’t settle to focus or struggled to sit because stress and anxiety overtook our bodies. Have you ever heard of a fidget toy? Maybe you have benefited from the process of using a fidget toy to calm and re-focus.

Items like fidget toys can be very effective in helping us calm. Each person handles stress differently and it is important that we find time to teach and practice different calming strategies to assist during difficulty and stress. Having your stress calming items accessible to you is a proactive way to set-up your home or classroom for all to be supported.

Try this:

As a class or family, take some time to build a Calming Kit:

At home, you can build a Calming Kit with your loved ones. Think of things that make you feel calm, write a list, and make a basket/box that’s accessible for all to use.

We ALL need a calming kit, stress is real and often we need help to find calm within our minds, bodies and emotions.

Ask yourself, there is no wrong answer:

What strategies have worked for me before? If the first strategy I tried didn't work, what one will I try next? Who can I sit beside to help me calm down?
