Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; A Future to Build

This year’s Black History Month Theme is Black Excellence: A Heritage to Celebrate; A Future to Build.   In celebrating Black History Month at St. Thomas Aquinas CSS, the Black Students’ Association has prepared information for the school community during morning announcements entitled the “Black Culture Series.”  The Leadership class is working on creating and displaying visuals throughout the school.  These initiatives are meant to recognize the contributions of the many Black Canadians both locally and across Canada.

On February 20th, students will have an opportunity to join a presentation by Mr. Leroy Hibbert – Multicultural Outreach Program Coordinator.  Mr. Hibbert has spoken to a variety of audiences from the Canadian Race Relations Foundation to many of our elementary and secondary schools across the region.  His discusses the importance of sharing our stories and building relationships in creating an inclusive environment.  Ms. St. Rose, one of our own STA teachers, will also be sharing her educational journey and her call to teaching.  Teachers will also be provided a link to a livestream of the Black History Month Mini-Conference.  This is being held at the Catholic Education Center and will take place on Friday February 23rd
